For years now (perhaps 18) I’ve been working away happily in the Professional version of Clarion. One of those ‘you don’t know what you don’t know’ situations I guess.
Then recently someone in the Clarion camp published a list of all the ‘extras’ included in the Clarion Enterprise edition. I had always been aware that Enterprise was more suitable for several programmers working on one project but as that did not describe my operation here I had not bothered to look further.
While there is a bunch of stuff included that do not serve any purpose for me at this time there are also other features that I already use but for which I have been paying extra;
· Report generators for PDF, XML, HTML, Text
· Messaging Templates
And features that I have not bothered with because of the perceived cost
· SetupBuilder (builds automatic install programs)
· Internet Connect (builds Java based web apps)
· Web Builder (builds HTML web apps)
· Report Writer (a stand-alone report writer that can be distributed to end-users – let me know if you’d like a copy integrated with your apps)
After very little consideration I bit the bullet and upgraded.
Once again I am back on that ultra-steep learning curve that goes along with working in the software development industry but there will be visible benefits to clients in the short term.
